The Austin Grand Prix was launched on May 25, 2010 in order to educate and engage motorsports fans and business interests at multiple levels while maximizing the potential impact of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Leading up to the inaugural race in 2012, The Austin Grand Prix played an active role in the approval and roll-out of the project and became the trusted, independent source for Formula 1 news and information in Austin, earning the 2012 Texas Social Media Award.

The Austin Grand Prix shifted its focus to an annual Grand Prix weekend kickoff party with Formula 1 broadcaster Will Buxton of NBC Sports. Buxton welcomes current and former Formula 1 drivers, media, motorsports personalities, and other notable icons to join him on stage in arguably the most fan-friendly, accessible, and fun event of the Grand Prix weekend. With a small cash donation taken at the door, "The Bash" has raised over $80,000 solely for charity, with over $60,000 going to Meals on Wheels Central Texas between 2011 and 2015 and $20,000 going to Justin Wilson Children's Fund in 2015, ensuring that the international motorsport event makes a lasting and positive impact on the Austin community.
